The Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of the more tragic of the classic movie monsters — he is kind of like a smaller, water-dwelling King Kong. This movie, his third, is probably his most tragic — he falls prey to some scientists who not only capture him and remove him from his jungle home, they also operate on him in an attempt to turn him into an air-breathing, land-dwelling Creature. Spoiler: it doesn’t go well.
