Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein is one of the seminal works of science fiction. Shelley’s book was made even more famous when Universal adapted it into a series of black-and-white movies starting in the 1930s. British production company Hammer Film picked up the Frankenstein mantle in the mid-1950s with The Curse of Frankenstein, which was released in color and was generally bloodier than the Universal movies. Hammer would make a total of seven Frankenstein films. The Revenge of Frankenstein is Hammer’s second, and it stars Hammer Film icon Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein.
