Ostensibly commissioned by “B” movie super-producer Roger Corman to cash in on the box office success of Jaws, director Joe Dante and writer John Sayles crafted a killer fish flick with plenty of its own charms. In Piranha, the fish are a lot smaller than a shark, but there are a whole lot more of them. And bonus (here’s where the sci-fi comes in) — they’re genetically engineered to be extra deadly.
