The middle (and arguably best) film in A.I.P.’s trio of late-1970s H.G. Welles adaptations — this one came out between The Food of the Gods and Empire of the Ants. It features special effects makeup by John Chambers, the man who created Mr. Spock’s pointy ears and the groundbreaking ape faces in Planet of the Apes.
