Ridley Scott returned to the Alien franchise with this prequel, three decades after he directed the first installment. Maybe “prequel” is the wrong word — this is a big (and stylish) movie, full of big (and weird) ideas, but it doesn’t have many direct ties to the 1979 Alien movie. It does have a stellar cast, though, including Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, and Benedict Wong.
