Though he isn’t generally regarded as a genre filmmaker, there is a healthy dose of sci-fi whimsy in director Wes Anderson’s Life Aquatic, specifically the movie’s aquatic life, like the adorable crayon seahorses and the monstrous jaguar shark. Bill Murray stars as Steve Zissou, a Jacques Cousteau-style documentarian who is going through a late-in-life midlife crisis, and stop-motion animator Henry Selick (director of The Nightmare Before Christmas) provides the fantastical sea creatures.
