You know how Superman (the iconic superhero from the doomed planet Krypton) can fly? In his comic book origins, he couldn’t actually do that, he could just “leap tall buildings in a single bound.” Superman’s power of flight was first established in this series of cartoon short films that brothers Max and Dave Fleischer produced for Paramount Pictures in the early 1940s. Aside from marking the Man of Steel’s silver screen debut, this Superman series influenced later cartoon superhero adventures, most notably the animated Batman television series from 1992.

Cast: Joan Alexander, Jackson Beck, Bud Collyer
