While everyone was waiting for the first new Star Wars movie in almost twenty years (The Phantom Menace), this other sci-fi movie hit theaters and quickly blew everybody’s minds. The Matrix was instantly iconic, influencing movies for years (for better or use) with its innovative cinematography, visual effects, and costume design (trenchcoats and sunglasses!). It also features one of those instantly iconic Keanu Reeves roles — Neo from The Matrix is up there with Ted, Jack Travern from Speed, and John Wick.
