Many thanks to David Cornelius for being our inaugural guest curator! Dave directed the amazing and hilarious creature feature Inhumanwich! and is in post-production on the intriguingly-titled 59 Minutes in a Bunker with the President of the United States.

Dave submitted his picks without comment, but they all definitely share an apocalyptic vibe. You should totally give Dave a follow on Twitter. And most importantly, treat yourself and check out Inhumanwich! ASAP.

Dave’s picks...

  • The Atomic Cafe (1982)
  • Best Friends Forever (2013)
  • A Boy and His Dog (1975)
  • The Day of the Triffids (1963)

  • Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988)

How It Started

As you might have seen on our About page, we started building Subspace in an attempt to create something like the science fiction version of Shudder — a genre movie (and TV) streaming site curated by fans of the genre. The big difference (other than focusing on the sci-fi genre instead of horror) is that while Shudder negotiates its own deals and hosts its own videos, Subspace is all about the curation — we hand you off to other sites that actually do the video streaming.

We quickly found out there is a lot of great material out there via free-with-ads movie sites. We lean pretty heavily on Tubi, and Tubi is a wonderful site that offers a wide variety of movies and TV shows, but don’t sleep on Pluto or Peacock’s free tier or the local library-affiliated sites Kanopy and Hoopla.

How It’s Going

We’re still working out a few kinks, but after a couple of months of work we’re excited to officially launch Subspace. Well, we’re calling it a soft launch. We’re going to spend another month or two working out those kinks before we start actively promoting the site.

That being the case, if you’re here early (early being the end of 2021), thanks for checking us out! And we’d love to hear your feedback. You can find us on Twitter — our handle is @Subspacetv. And even if you don’t have any feedback, we’d appreciate a follow. And if you like what we’re doing here, please don’t hesitate to recommend us to your friends.

We’ll keep working out those bugs and adding titles and hopefully have our big launch early next year. Until then, happy sci-fi watching! Oh, and happy holidays!
