Videodrome
Directed by David Cronenberg
1983 • R • English • 87 min.
“Soon all of us will have special names. Names designed to cause the cathode ray tube to resonate.” David Cronenberg’s 1983 mindbender fetishizes the analog age of video — the CRT televisions, the Betamax VCRs, the scrambled satellite broadcasts of mysterious origin. But it’s hard to hear that quote and not think about the screen names we have on various social networks and how the smartphone screen might be more dangerous than whatever Cronenberg was contemplating four decades ago.
Cast: James Woods, Debbie Harry, Sonja Smits
